Typographic house numbers
Erik Spiekermann, master of graphic design, renowned typographer and typeface inventor, has designed these house numbers, which are available exclusively at MAGAZIN. His newly arranged font Meta Bold Industrial is laser-cut from a steel plate, colour-coated or galvanized. An interesting effect: what you read is missing! Because the actual numbers are cut out of the metal, the volume of the font is created in the missing area. And this is how the house number series was created: Spiekermann's little house on Vallejo Street in San Francisco didn't have a house number for a long time. So he finally designed one himself and followed the idea of stencil lettering, which was used to label boxes, machines and walls before plotters and inkjet printers existed. Developed into a house number, a well-chosen distance between the stencils and the wall creates an interesting shadow play that makes the numbers visible even without backlighting. Our recommendation: Hang beautiful lettering on your house and yard! And our reading recommendation: "Hello, I'm Erik", a visual biography that documents Erik Spiekermann's projects to date, traces the stages of his life and provides a textual account of his approach as a designer.
