STRING - A SWEDISH FURNITURE STORY

STRING - A SWEDISH FURNITURE STORY

What does a book publisher do when its customers don't have a suitable place to store their books? - Right: The publisher creates this possibility itself and offers an affordable, easy to ship and uncomplicated to assemble bookshelf. The birth of the STRING shelving system, whose inventors Nisse and Kajsa Strinning won the competition for this very bookshelf - organized by the Swedish publishing house Bonnier - in 1949. And the starting signal for a furniture concept that not only conquered Swedish households, but also the whole world shortly afterwards in the form of major orders, exhibitions, international awards and even being depicted on a stamp. After the storm of the shelving system in the 1950s and 1960s, quieter times followed, during which production of the once so successful furniture was even temporarily discontinued. However, the dormant inventive spirit and creative urge awoke again in 2004: with numerous product extensions, accessories and practical as well as beautiful application ideas, the bookcase developed into an all-rounder in terms of storage. From a useful kitchen shelf to a writing desk to a spacious wardrobe. The STRING FURNITURE company was founded, laying the foundation for new product worlds. With the new edition STRING POCKET, a compact version of the furniture classic in modern materials and colors, Nisse Strinning himself succeeded in transferring his concept into the here and now. Two new ranges were added: with WORKS, the company offers furniture concepts for all aspects of work - from height-adjustable desks and mobile panels to mobile pedestals. Under the title MUSEUM, STRING FURNITURE is the manufacturer of a small furniture series that goes back to the design of a small pedestal by Gabriella Lenke and Mattias Ståhlbom for the Swedish National Museum. Remarkable: always with people in mind and with social and ecological issues in mind, STRING FURNITURE, which is still a pleasantly small company today, manufactures its products in collaboration with regional suppliers and using regional raw materials. Typical Nisse and Kajsa, typical String.
