ANGLEPOISE - British icon in a colorful guise

ANGLEPOISE, designed by an automotive engineer in 1932 and redesigned by Kenneth Grange in 2004, is THE British work lamp. With its clever spring joints, it has never gone out of fashion. "The Anglepoise mechanism is a small miracle of balance, a quality of life that we don't appreciate as much as we should," says designer Grange about the smart technical detail of the lights. The spring mechanism made it possible to align articulated arms with millimetre precision at the slightest touch - a true masterpiece for the time. The spring mechanism is still a characteristic feature of ANGLEPOISE luminaires today. The clever technology and striking appearance make them an icon of British design. Incidentally, the name ANGLEPOISE is made up of the words "angle" and "posture" or "balance", in reference to the luminaire's ability to hold any position securely. ANGLEPOISE is still run as a family business today. John and Simon Terry have been running the company since 2001. Under their leadership, the company was relocated from Redditch to Portsmouth. ANGLEPOISE regularly collaborates with contemporary British designers, including Paul Smith, who has developed limited edition versions of his famous 14-tone stripe pattern.
