FREITAG - Plan(e) B for bags with high utility value
FREITAG - Plan(e) B for bags with high utility value
Functional, water-repellent and recontextualized: The FREITAG legend was born in 1993 with the first messenger bag made from used truck tarpaulins, old bicycle inner tubes and car seat belts. The portfolio of robust bags is now more diverse, but production still takes place in Zurich. And: every bag is unique, which is why you will find FREITAG products in our stores - where you can touch and try them out. FREITAG bags are made from used truck tarpaulins, car seat belts and disused bicycle inner tubes. It was the brothers Daniel and Markus Freitag who launched this unique design project in Zurich in 1993. The idea came to them while they were looking for a waterproof and robust messenger bag for cycling. Inspired by the heavy goods traffic outside their office window, they used old truck tarpaulins as the starting material. As a result, FREITAG (today more than 200 employees work for the Swiss company) has almost unlimited possibilities for individual color combinations. Added to this are the signs of wear and tear that these tarpaulins have received during their five to ten-year journey throughout Europe due to the effects of the weather and soiling. Truck tarpaulins are made to withstand the rigors of everyday life on the road. That's why the bags easily cope with rain and dirt in everyday use.MAGAZIN has been cooperating with FREITAG for many years. The smart idea of this special kind of recycling is in every bag that the Freitag brothers develop. From robustness to practical value, the bags rightly promise to be partners for life.

Unique items made from waste: thirty years ago, FREITAG produced the first messenger bag from used truck tarpaulins. Today, the Zurich-based company processes around 350 tons of old tarpaulin into bags, rucksacks and accessories every year. At the same time, the company is researching a future without waste, in which materials are not disposed of but reused in cycles.
