Ever more beautiful with time

As little design as possible: designer Sebastian Leitinger creates clothing, bags, purses and shoes with his company Glein. The products made from selected materials are available to buy in his own store in Vienna - and now also at MAGAZIN.

There is a touch of poetry when you enter Glein's store in Vienna's Neustiftgasse. With deep blue paneling on the outside, a bright room opens up inside with high ceilings, fine concrete flooring and light grey painted double door beams, furnished sparingly with fine craftsmanship and natural woods. Sebastian Leitinger and his six employees design and sell clothing, bags, purses and shoes here. There is also some furniture. Made from selected materials from sustainable production that respect people, animals and the environment. This is particularly important to him. And that his products are manufactured in Europe. Leitinger, who studied design and economics, set up Glein alongside other jobs. He has taken his time. The leather for his bags, wallets and shoes, for example, is tanned from European cattle hides from milk and meat production in Europe using purely vegetable tanning methods and is completely untreated apart from the leather grease. He visited over twenty tanneries until he knew what he wanted. The materials that Glein uses are so beautiful that the team wants to add as little design as possible to them. And: they only get more beautiful with time. Glein sells exclusively in his store in Vienna, via his own online store and a few selected retailers such as MAGAZIN. So that as much product as possible is in the price. And as much Glein as possible.

The vegetable-tanned cowhide is processed in barrels with oak bark and chestnuts using centuries-old methods. Natural dyeing and the addition of natural waxes and oils give the leather its unique charm. The gentle manufacturing process preserves the original properties of the leather. Over time, it becomes more supple, darkens under the influence of UV light and develops an individual patina.
