About Magazin

It all started with an idea that was revolutionary at the time. In 1971, we began to repurpose products from the industrial and working world for the home and everyday life. The one had nothing to do with the other before and suddenly it was a matter of course to surround ourselves with steel storage shelves and glass from the catering trade in our own four walls. It wasn't easy because the markets weren't transparent, the sources of supply were often hidden and the research was detective work. Today, we see our task as being to sound out the sheer endless supply. We take a close look, we pre-select and create a clear and reliable selection for you - fishing rods instead of trawls, so to speak. We introduce you to products with a high utility value, of the best quality, high-quality workmanship, made from tried-and-tested or innovative materials. We like to deal with people whose approach to the production of these products we know. Many items are only available at MAGAZIN and we develop and produce a large number of products ourselves in collaboration with designers and manufacturers - you can recognize them by the M product. In our stores in Stuttgart, Munich and Bonn, you are right in the middle of the action, right in the middle of the world of MAGAZIN.

  • MAGAZIN was founded in Stuttgart over 50 years ago. A store, an idea, a program formed an innovative company with stubbornness and perseverance. In the beginning there was criticism. You could call it discernment. Immanuel Kant speaks of the power of judgment. In the spirit of the protest movement, MAGAZIN was founded in Stuttgart in 1971. When a young generation set out at the end of the sixties to change conditions around the world, they did what generations before them had already done.

  • What is important to us? Choice and origin of materials, separability, packaging material, production location in dialog with utility value, durability and appropriate pricing. It is best when utility value and ecological qualities complement each other. This also requires customers to be open to rethinking some of their habits.

  • In our stores, you are right in the middle of the action, right in the middle of the world of MAGAZIN products. Take a look at what interests you, touch the products, try them out. And above all: talk to the MAGAZIN employees. They know their business and are familiar with the product and furnishings.

  • Our in-house developments incorporate much of what makes us special. Every MAGAZIN product is based on an original idea and an intensive examination of the questions of need and benefit, purpose and necessity. Who needs this product for what purpose and why is it better than something that already exists? In a close exchange between the designers and the MAGAZIN product developers, a piece of furniture finds its way from the first sketch to series production.

  • We share a common attitude with all our manufacturers: we sell well-designed products and take a critical look at materials and manufacturing processes. Behind every product is a story that is usually inextricably linked to the history of the manufacturer, the company or sometimes even the manufacturing family - with people who are passionate about making things that are more than just short-lived consumer goods.
