- Produced in Germany: from foam scraps - without PVC and plasticizers
- No odor, wipeable and sweat-resistant
General Information
Closed-loop for the mat. Grip for the sun salutation.
The principle of "closed-loop", the closed material cycle, was the most important criterion in the development of this yoga mat: It consists of secondary raw materials and can be recycled. For the production, cuttings from the foam industry are used, which are produced in large quantities, especially in mattress production. Only the thin backing fabric in the center, the coating, and the cotton band and logo (made of hemp) are newly produced for the yoga mat.
And at the end of its useful life - because even a yoga mat designed to last has to be replaced at some point - it can be recycled itself, preferably back into a yoga mat. Therefore, in this case, you can return the yoga mat to hejhej-mats. But until it is so far, it needs some years of yoga practice.
For this, the "hejhej-mat" brings everything that makes a good yoga mat. With a thickness of 5 mm, it cushions comfortably, but still offers enough stability, which is an advantage for dynamic yoga styles and is easy on the joints. As a result, the mat adds a bit more weight, but quickly lays out flat on the floor after unrolling, so you can start your yoga session right away.
Its textured surface provides grip, while the TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) coating on both sides ensures slip resistance: on the floor and for hands and feet. The closed-pored surface also prevents moisture or sweat from penetrating the mat. This makes the hejhej yoga mat suitable even for sweaty styles such as Bikram yoga, which is performed at 40 °C room temperature (nevertheless, a cotton cloth should be applied here).
Swedish name, German production. Fair and social.
Even if the hejhej yoga mat presents itself as completely Swedish: It is produced completely in Germany, from the material to the manufacturing. For this purpose, the manufacturer works with a workshop for people with disabilities, who sew on the logo and pack the yoga mat.
Hej hej! From yoga to sustainable yoga mat start-up
Gentle hatha yoga, calm yin yoga, flowing vinyasa yoga or powerful dynamic ashtanga yoga - whatever yoga style you prefer, the right yoga mat is just as important for your yoga practice as good instruction. And as diverse as the types of yoga are, the selection of yoga mats on the market is just as large. Although natural materials such as fur, cotton, cork or leather are particularly suitable for yoga as one of the ayurvedic components, mats made of synthetic materials have proven themselves especially for the dynamic yoga styles. Not only do they cushion better when practicing the various asanas and vinyasas, but they are also sweat-resistant and can be wiped clean. So far, so good - or not, because plastic is not exactly the most sustainable material. Anna Souvignier and Sophie Zepnik were of the same opinion, but searched in vain for yoga mats made of recycled and recyclable material. What could be more obvious than to focus on the development of a closed-loop-yoga mat instead of searching? After all, both are not only enthusiastic yoginis, but had also just finished their sustainability studies in Sweden. So they were able to bring the experience and knowledge from both fields into the development of their yoga mat. The result was a sustainable, fully recyclable yoga mat - which incidentally also meets all the other criteria that are important to the two of them - and their newly founded company hejhej-mats. They have since expanded their range to include other products that are also circular.
