Three wooden planks that are connected to form a U by finger joints and stabilized on the open side by a round crossbar - the Ulm stool is an impressive example of the art of designing an extremely minimalist and yet multifunctional construction: it can be used as a seat, side table, shelf or carrying aid for books and the like. Designed in the mid-1950s by Max Bill, Bauhaus student, architect and at the time Rector of the Ulm School of Design, in collaboration with Hans Gugelot and Paul Hildinger, the Ulm stool is undisputedly one of the icons of furniture design.

And while its areas of application regularly open up new perspectives, the Ulm Stool itself is also being given a new look. While the original was made from untreated spruce planks - also available from us in this original material - we are now expanding our range to include a colored version made from birch and beech wood. To achieve an authentic aesthetic, the wood is stained in color, not varnished, so that the grain of the wood can still shine through. The famous solid construction has remained the same, as has the production in Switzerland.
