MAGAZIN - Dealer, designer, producer
Breaking out of conservative living spaces, a breath of fresh air in people's minds, individual and social progress: these were the goals of the MAGAZIN project, which was launched in 1971 by academic staff and students at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and in the climate of the protest movement of an entire generation. MAGAZIN brought storage shelves into living rooms, industrially manufactured catering glasses onto dining tables at home and construction lights into private hallways. The idea from back then is still the basis and driving force behind the company MAGAZIN today - as a retailer, designer and manufacturer.MAGAZIN sees itself as a discoverer of well-designed products from a wide range of areas and as a disseminator of this unconventional living concept with a sense of purpose and originality. We like products that solve problems, help in everyday life and make life more beautiful. And we offer a select range of well-designed products with high practical value - online and in our stores in Stuttgart, Munich, Bonn and Cologne. And if the market doesn't offer what we want, we make products ourselves. We then develop our own designs or the product concepts of external designers from the drawing to series production. The MAGAZIN products: Ecologically well thought-out, functional, attractive and of high physical quality.
MAGAZIN was founded in Stuttgart over 50 years ago. A store, an idea, a program formed an innovative company with stubbornness and perseverance. In the beginning there was criticism. You could call it discernment. Immanuel Kant speaks of the power of judgment. In the spirit of the protest movement, MAGAZIN was founded in Stuttgart in 1971. When a young generation set out at the end of the sixties to change conditions around the world, they did what generations before them had already done.
What is important to us? Choice and origin of materials, separability, packaging material, production location in dialog with utility value, durability and appropriate pricing. It is best when utility value and ecological qualities complement each other. This also requires customers to be open to rethinking some of their habits.
In our stores, you are right in the middle of the action, right in the middle of the world of MAGAZIN products. Take a look at what interests you, touch the products, try them out. And above all: talk to the MAGAZIN employees. They know their business and are familiar with the product and furnishings.
Our in-house developments incorporate much of what makes us special. Every MAGAZIN product is based on an original idea and an intensive examination of the questions of need and benefit, purpose and necessity. Who needs this product for what purpose and why is it better than something that already exists? In a close exchange between the designers and the MAGAZIN product developers, a piece of furniture finds its way from the first sketch to series production.
We share a common attitude with all our manufacturers: we sell well-designed products and take a critical look at materials and manufacturing processes. Behind every product is a story that is usually inextricably linked to the history of the manufacturer, the company or sometimes even the manufacturing family - with people who are passionate about making things that are more than just short-lived consumer goods.
