Riso gradient print

The gradient prints from Herr & Frau Rio bring impressive color transitions to any room. Printed on 170 g Munken paper using innovative printing technology, they offer a high-quality feel and excellent color quality. Risography enables brilliant color reproduction, which is particularly effective in neon color gradients.

Laura Sirch and Sascha Wellm, the duo behind Herr & Frau Rio, discovered risography for their projects during their training in communication design at Munich University of Applied Sciences. Originally developed by the Japanese company Riso in the 1980s, this process uses rice bran oil-based color inks and works without heat transfer, which reduces energy consumption.

The prints are unframed and perfect for modern living and working spaces. They really come into their own when hung in series.

Risography is one of the most environmentally friendly and energy-saving printing processes available. Similar to the screen printing process, master foils are produced from hemp fibers, which are then mounted on a drum and penetrated by the rice bran-based ink. Each card is unique: varying ink application and a slight offset are just as much a part of the printed image as the possible slight color abrasion.
