Pitcher Strøm

The pitcher of the STRØM product family: strict geometric shapes in perfect proportion. The designs of Nicholai Wiig Hansen are produced in Portugal - in traditional technique of stoneware. Stoneware with an interior glaze is in equal measure functional kitchen vessel and object in the living room. The jug is best suited for cold liquids. It should not be cleaned in the dishwasher. Copenhagen-based design brand raawii has partnered with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to produce a special edition of raawii's iconic Strøm ceramic pitcher in terracotta. The special edition is presented in conjunction with the largest exhibition to date on Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, whose jugs and pitchers are part of the scene in several of Vermeer's paintings, most notably his masterpiece "The Milkmaid" (1658-59). The terracotta jug in "The Milkmaid" inspired raawii to create a special version of the Strøm jug from the same material Vermeer depicted nearly four centuries ago. Strøm, raawii's first ceramic product launched in 2017, became an instant icon and is now considered a modern classic by many architects and interior designers. The way Strøm's geometric form is defined by its bold colors and soft play of light and shadow shows a direct relationship to elements of Vermeer's work, so when the Rijksmuseum and raawii began a dialogue about a special edition to accompany the Vermeer exhibition, a Strøm pitcher was the obvious product to work on. Now, for the first time, raawii presents one of their designs in raw terracotta. As a special edition, the Strøm jug will be available in terracotta.
