The blade has a sharp edge, but a rounded tip - this relieves you as parents of the supervisory duty over the carving offspring not completely, but calms enormously. As with any Opinel, the blade can be locked with a metal ring at the transition to the handle in the folded and unfolded state.

A locking ring on the handle is turned to the stop and locks the blade stably. Joseph Opinel invented this now very famous principle over 130 years ago. With the growing success of his first pocket knives, the product range of knife and cutlery making in the Savoy also flourished. The rust proof blade can be locked in an open and closed position with the aid of a ring at the upper end of the grip. The blade is sharp but rounded on the end. While that doesn’t absolve the adults of their responsibility to watch over their whittling children, it makes that job a lot easier.
