General Information
It is impossible to imagine traditional Viennese coffee houses without newspaper holders. When the first newspaper was clamped in a newspaper holder, can no longer be said exactly. Presumably, however, the time coincides with the emergence of the first coffee houses in European metropolises. As these increasingly established themselves as a place to linger and discuss world events, newspaper reading also gained in importance. Various versions of this product type, mostly of regional origin and distribution, are still in use today. This archetypal design was particularly widespread in Vienna. Until a few years ago, an old basket maker from the outskirts of Vienna supplied coffee houses, regular customers and private enthusiasts with his newspaper holders. The family business had been manufacturing and supplying the holders since 1867. At the age of 90, the owner finally discontinued the business. A young Viennese, Thomas Poganitsch, had a sense and eye for this product. He took over the tools and machinery of this small manufactory and made sure that the newspaper holder continued to be produced in the same quality and design. Natural materials, joined together in a simple, timeless design: the lightweight construction made of bent willow is convincing in its design. It allows the complete "reading side" to rest on one side, which in turn allows you to read the newspaper one-handed and drink your coffee at the same time.
