Lampadina table lamp

The small luminaire for placement on a table, shelf or windowsill provides direct and diffuse light. The anodized aluminium base is also a cable winder. The scope of delivery includes the large globe light source, which was already a striking part of Achille Castiglioni's original design with its partially frosted surface intended as a glare shield.

Achille Castiglioni is an old master of Italian design. Together with his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo, he founded an architecture firm in Milan in 1944 and shaped half a century of Italian design language with his designs in product design and architecture. What characterizes his designs is his humorous and playful approach to design. Typical is the use of elements that are familiar to the viewer from other contexts. An example of this type of decontextualization is the film reel that forms the base of the LAMPADINA luminaire. This roll of film also serves as a coil for the supply cable. The luminaire has hardly any components and was originally intended as a gift for visitors to the newly built showroom of luminaire manufacturer FLOS in Milan. Supplemented by a lamp base - originally equipped with a toggle switch, now with a toggle switch - it becomes an additional light in many different places in the living and working space. This appealing design is archetypal of Castiglioni's work.

The architect and designer Achille Castiglioni and his brothers Pier Giacomo and Livio are among the driving forces and great innovators of Italian design in the 20th century. The style of the three brothers varies between simple practicality and organic opulence. Design objects that use industrially manufactured components in surprising new contexts in the tradition of ready-mades became a particular trademark of the Castiglionis.
