Coastal strip
What color is the beach feeling of the French north? The beach huts in the port city of Le Havre answer: "Colorful". Anyone strolling past them might think that their color scheme is pure coincidence. But the very moment the huts swapped their traditional white for colorful stripes suggests a system. To mark its 500th anniversary in 2017, the city commissioned the large-format work from the renowned graphic designer and typographer Karel Martens.
The Dutchman developed an algorithmic composition - together with researchers from the computer science laboratory for information processing and systems at the University of Le Havre and the La Faironnerie laboratory, which deals with the combination of science and art. The basis was the city's founding decree, resulting in a choreography of stripes in ten different colors and six widths. These were painted on the visible surfaces of the huts. Each one was given an individual coat of paint - together they form the artwork "Colours on the Beach" and the colorful diversity became a rhythmic unity. What a beautiful statement about the city and its inhabitants.
A concept that couldn't be better suited to our manufacturer Suite702. Because color and diversity are part of the brand DNA. The new towel collection is based on this same artwork and was designed in collaboration with Karel Martens.
