Hard, harder, Schönwald
Durable and well designed: The tableware from Schönwald in Upper Franconia is actually reserved for professionals in the catering and hotel industry. But the traditional manufacturer makes an exception for MAGAZIN.
Shards bring good luck? With Schönwald tableware, you may have to wait a long time for the lucky break. This is because the manufacturer's plates, cups and bowls are made of so-called hard porcelain. Fired at over 1,400 degrees hotter than other porcelains and with a high proportion of kaolin in the mass, it is characterized by special edge impact resistance and very scratch-resistant glazes. Schönwald has been producing durable, functional professional tableware for restaurants and hotels in the town of the same name on the Upper Franconian Porcelain Route and in the Upper Palatinate since 1879. However, MAGAZIN was able to persuade the manufacturer to offer the SHIRO and COFFEE TASTING series to end customers too - so that they can benefit from the advantages of hard porcelain in their own kitchens. There is no need to compromise on design: SHIRO is a design by Stefan Diez and Andrea Lenardin, who fused European and Japanese tableware cultures to create a simple, stackable service. COFFEE TASTING by designer Carsten Gollnick, on the other hand, is optimized for your favourite hot drink: the coffee mugs retain the heat and have a thinly shaped mouth rim for a pleasant feeling when drinking - a little moment of happiness in between.

Glasses and tableware from Schönwald
Tableware series Shiro, Bowl, large
SHIRO ("white" in Japanese) is a tableware series that comprehensively meets changing habits and the resulting needs. Shapes and sizes, plates, platters and bowls are in perfect proportion to each other and invite you to mix and match as required. The powerful, rather thick-walled shapes are as delicate as they are robust and suitable for everyday use. Each piece is made from hard porcelain in Schönwald in the Upper Palatinate, a classic region for this craft.

The shape and body thickness of the porcelain influence the taste experience: different diameters and volumes, a particularly thin mouth rim, optimum temperature retention properties and crema protection created by the soft flow of the inner contours. A ribbed structure in the handle area, which runs around the linear and reduced shape, makes handling easier and creates an attractive surface structure. Glasses made of heat-resistant borosilicate glass for espresso or as a suitable water glass complete the range.

Does that still exist? Lights that are produced 100 percent in Europe? The answer is simple: no. Asian technology companies are too good at producing circuit boards and LEDs quickly, in large quantities, to a high quality and at a good price. But light is not just about technology.
Bright red is only available from us: MAGAZIN regularly launches well-known and tried-and-tested products in exclusive special editions. Because whether it's a coat rack, chair or pillbox, good design can sometimes be special.
