Handmade messenger in a compact format from the well-known Swiss manufacturer FREITAG. The individual parts of the bags are cut from used truck tarpaulins - so each bag is unique. With a quickly adjustable shoulder strap made from safety belt and edging made from bicycle inner tube, the bag is made almost exclusively from upcycled and extremely durable materials. Truck tarpaulins, for example, are washable, tear-proof and waterproof. The highlight: the integrated Velcro system can be used to increase the height of the bag and thus its capacity. LASSIE also has a small, lockable front pocket and a divider in the main compartment for organizing the transported goods. What we particularly like is that the messenger stays comfortably and securely in place even when cycling thanks to the perfectly adjustable strap. And despite its robustness, the bag can be repaired by the manufacturer if something should happen to it. A note on the truck tarpaulins: these are made of polvinyl chloride and therefore contain plasticizers. The bags should therefore be stored out of the reach of small children who can still put things in their mouths. As long as the bags are not put in the mouth, they are completely harmless.

FREITAG has always approached design from the end result. In their search for suitable materials for a bag that was both functional and durable, brothers Daniel and Markus Freitag discovered used truck tarps over 30 years ago. The rest is design history; to this day, the Zurich-based company upcycles several hundred tons of tarpaulin annually into bags, backpacks, and accessories, thereby saving them from the landfill. To ensure the products have a long life, Freitag also offers repair and exchange services. But because every bag eventually wears out and the PVC and polyester tarps cannot be recycled, there is now a second product line called MONO[PA6]. Instead of used materials, FREITAG uses polyamide 6 (PA 6)—better known as nylon—in the form of a monomaterial, as the technical term goes. The backpacks and bags are made entirely of PA 6—from the fabric to the thread, zippers, and even the label. What does this have to do with the end? Thanks to their monomaterial construction, MONO[PA6] products can be efficiently recycled in one piece.
