Bulbul water kettle
- Unpublished design classic in Alessi-special edition for the 100th anniversary
- Kettle in the shape of curling stone, with flute
- Also suitable for induction hobs
General Information
Achille Castiglioni's kettle is a 1995 project inspired by a curling stone, rediscovered among the prototypes of the Alessi museum. Alberto Alessi: "Achille often reminded me that I asked him to design cooking utensils that he did not normally use. In short, he was not an expert in this field. As proof, his kettle has a very peculiar handling: as if inviting to play by pushing it on the kitchen countertop, like curling."
This unprecedented water kettle is one of Achille Castiglioni's many unrealized projects, the result of his tireless curiosity and love of experimentation. In BULBUL we see Castiglioni's extraordinary ability to translate properties and functions of Objekten from completely different fields into a new project. A game of transfers that has often generated the famous ironic dimension of many of his works. BULBUL is a perfect kettle whose origins lie in the round shape of a curling stone: from frozen water to evaporated water, an amusement enhanced by the name "bul, bul" chosen by Castiglioni. Because in the old Milanese dialect, the birthplace of this unforgettable designer, it means "it boils, it boils"!
BULBUL is suitable for all hobs, we recommend medium or low flame on a gas hob and medium heat on an induction hob. How it works? Remove the lid and fill with water only up to the bottom of the spout, so that the pipe is not damaged and can emit its sound. Close lid, insert whistle and place stove on heat source. When the whistle begins to sound, remove the kettle from the heat source, allow the last bubbles of water to subside, remove the whistle, and pour out the water.
