Bird's nest upcycling

These bird nests are hand-woven and hand-sewn. Tiny houses - or rather: tiny nesting boxes - from fair trade production for the wild birds breeding in your garden. A sturdy metal frame forms the base of the nesting aid. Its upper part is made from natural hogla grass and is wrapped just as tightly around the frame as its lower part, which is made from colorful cotton fabric. But not just any fabric, because only saris from the old clothes collection are used.

Our upcycled bird's nest comes from Bangladesh - just like the fast-growing hogla grass, a naturally occurring seaweed in the south of the country that can overgrow entire lakes, rivers and port facilities in no time at all. The locals regularly harvest it to curb the uncontrolled growth. They regard it as a weed, but also use it to make all kinds of baskets and other handicrafts. With every purchase of our bird's nest, you support the local people for whom this work represents a way out of great poverty. Watch out, surprise effect: as we always use different scraps of fabric, all our bird's nests look different. They are unique and we cannot say in advance which color and pattern combination you will like.
