Better to leave out

About the challenges of product selection

Selection is a challenge - our important task is to choose from the sheer endless range of products that are conceived and produced. We take a close look, select, leave out and thus ensure a clear and reliable range. We fish with a fishing rod instead of a trawl.

The critical eye

Who does all this work at MAGAZIN? Our product scouts! Everything that goes into our range has passed through their hands first. They sift through the endless range of products so that you don't have to. What criteria do they use to decide? Practical value, design and physical quality, aspects of sustainable production. We look at tried-and-tested and innovative materials and talk to the people who supply us. This is important to us: how and where do our suppliers and manufacturers manufacture? And, more importantly, what is their attitude?

CREATED for MAGAZIN: The MAGAZIN products

Incidentally, we apply the same criteria when we work as designers and producers ourselves - for the MAGAZIN products. Our MAGAZIN product developers and designers work together with freelance designers and manufacturers to find the right answers to the issues of good design and resource-saving use of materials, durability and sensible packaging. And anyway: what is really needed? What alternatives and innovations are available in times of tight material markets - product design is hard work. We bring over 50 years of experience to this process. We know what standards a product has to meet, how logistics work and what hurdles await in our quality management before the product reaches you, our customers.

Same same but different: same furniture, new context

The transfer of things from other contexts is how MAGAZIN began. Repurposing was our credo in the early years - and so the steel storage shelf adorned the private room, and the glass from the catering trade ended up on the kitchen table. Discovering products from the world of industry and work for the home and everyday life is still part of our DNA today. And it often challenges us - especially in places where products are not readily available, we are drawn to discovering the source. We visit manufacturers, talk to retailers and attend trade fairs. At the same time, we try to recognize and ignore short-lived fashions. After all, MAGAZIN products should not only be good and reliable, but you, the buyer, should also like them for a long time.
