General Information
Clear lines
"Stylish, expressive, harmonious in color and pattern" could be the short version for the designs of the Røros Tweed wool textiles. Very different designers are responsible for this. And as different as their work is, they all enjoy playing with colors and have the same keen sense for graphic compositions. Kristin Five Melvær is already represented at Røros Tweed with several designs, and the design for the Bento series also comes from her pen. Easily recognizable by the clear lines, expressive colour combinations and unusual details that break up uniform structures and create counterpoints: Here it is the striking black bar that divides the color frames and surfaces in half. In combination with the name, the design immediately makes us think of the Japanese lunch box, for which such clear divisions (in addition to the visually appealing arrangement of the food inside) are typical.
The cushion cover is woven in the usual Røros Norwegian quality: from fine lambswool and with a high use of material. Thanks to the surface roughening, the fabric has a pleasantly soft feel. Good to know: Initially, the cover may seem a little stiff, but with time and use, the wool fabric becomes increasingly supple. You can also find matching blankets made from the same soft lambswool in our range.
Norwegian through and through. Røros Tweed
The Norwegian textile company Røros Tweed is characterized by a high level of vertical integration. All production processes, from shearing to weaving, are located in Norway, based on designs created in collaboration with renowned designers, including international ones. The fact that Røros Tweed pays such consistent attention to purely Norwegian production is also due to the appreciation of regional traditions - but not only that.
Exemplary
In Røros, Norway's only mountain town, it all began with a social motivation: the industrialist Peder Hiort (1715-1789) had stipulated in his will that his fortune should be used to purchase wool so that the needy of Røros could weave textiles from it in paid homework. Røros Tweed follows in this tradition of responsible action and continues the basic idea of the Hiort Foundation - technically advanced and ecologically minded. The products are designed and manufactured in such a way that the materials used can be reused and returned to the material cycle. This conserves resources, saves material costs and avoids waste.
Wool from Røros
Røros Tweed only uses wool from sheep farms in the region. The sheep live and graze freely on the pasture, even though the climate there is extremely harsh. At the same time, however, this provides a great advantage, as pests do not even settle in the wool. There is therefore no need for chemical treatment. Thanks to the natural living conditions for the sheep, Norwegian new wool has another special feature: It is very elastic. If you squeeze the raw wool with your hands and then let go, it quickly regains its original volume. This elasticity ensures that Røros blankets are so voluminous - and remain so for a long time.
