Kelsch. Old Alsatian tradition
This fabric, traditionally woven in plain weave, was once part of the equipment of every rural household in Alsace. Its name "Kelsch" sounds quite "Kölsch" and actually comes from the Cologne area: for the yarns used to make the fabrics were dyed with vegetable dyes from Cologne, including "Cologne Blue". The Alsatians mainly used linen for their Kelsch fabrics and made kitchen towels, hand towels, table and bed linen from it. We have the fabric rewoven with black plaid in an Austrian weaving mill and made up into this tea towel in Poland. Table linen as well as a kitchen apron made of the same Kelsch fabric can also be found in our assortment.
